Who Is She?! - Nikki Grahame (2006)
For those who didn't quite get that, I am not Nikki Grahame, my name is Ruby. I'm a scrubs wearing local girl, surviving a major trauma centre through promoting honest conversation (thoughts and feelings) *insert dramatic scream*, whilst celebrating our physical and emotional lumps and bumps through personal blogs.
I’m a Radiographer, aka a medical button pusher, with the aim to normalise taking the time to recharge, enhance our (my) ability to proudly discuss the thoughts and feelings we often shy away from and promote celebration of our so called ‘imperfections’.
This blog has been created for those who, like me, have been affected by the last year and due to finally (fingers crossed for the last time) coming out the other side, are ready to talk about all we have endured before it is entirely pushed under the rug of our social life’s return and ‘normality’ being restored.
Whilst I can assemble a full-page list of ‘ the negatives of Covid-19’, I can also admit I have learnt more about myself in this past year than ever before, and for that, I am personally grateful. We have all in one way or another, evolved throughout the pandemic, I for one am coming out of my sweatpants wearing, hair washing strike a more open minded yet semi traumatised, self-celebrating, clothing designing, compulsive reading Feminist. Ok, I have always been the latter, but the exiting of my cocoon has occurred, nonetheless.
I will be opening up about my experience as an NHS employee throughout the past year as well as a 22-year-old losing (some of) her ‘wild years’ to the pandemic whilst growing into the proud, confident, acne scarred, slightly squishier woman I am today.
So, expect A LOT of home truths and self-loving.
Let’s begin, shall we?
We all have coping mechanisms, mine just happens to be dark humour, sarcasm and a packet of Maryland’s.
It’s time to truly promote discussion. To be relatable, to feel related to, to remind whoever may need it that you are not experiencing these thoughts and feelings alone. We have finally commenced our journey out the other side and we must ensure no one is left behind.
